10-Minute Obsession:

Werewolves, We Love You Too

Whatever you think about Google, they do some damn cool stuff.

Like the new Books Ngram Viewer, which charts the word frequency of whatever you want it to, in books and other publications, over whatever period of time you want it to. This can be totally helpful for research - and it can provide bucketloads of trivia for all eternity. Like, did you know "Gervin" peaked in publications in 1991? Me neither.

And then there's this brilliant graph, which a pal tipped me off to after seeing it at the Atlantic Monthly's website today:

So there you have it: Werewolves have just never been as cool as vampires. Nor have they really been as cool as zombies, at least after the latter gained popular traction. (According to Wikipedia, zombies didn't exist in popular culture until the 1920s.)

Holiday party chitchat: Covered. You're welcome.
