It's a big, big week for performances courtesy of the UT School of Music. There is no admission charge for any of these events.
Wednesday, April 1: This evening should find you at "Piazzolla Night: A Taste of Tango." The program will feature music by the Argentine tango composer and bandoneón player, Astor Piazzolla. His work combines elements of tango, jazz and classical music all wrapped in an Argentine flavor. Arrangements are by double-bassist and composer/arranger Joel DiBartolo with a UT Knoxville faculty and guest artist chamber ensemble, including violinist Miroslav Hristov, violist Hillary Herndon, cellist Mary Beadell-DiBartolo, bassist Joel DiBartolo, and pianist Patrick Harvey.

Thursday, April 2: As part of a week-long residency of Dutch composer Jacob ter Veldhuis...the world premiere of a new arrangement of the Tallahatchie Concerto for Alto Saxophone and Band by Jacob ter Veldhuis, aka JacobTV. The performance will feature Connie Frigo, saxophone with Gary Sousa conducting the UT Wind Ensemble.

Guest Artist Fred Hamilton is a guitarist, bassist, composer, recording artist, author, clinician, and professor in the Jazz Studies Division of the University of North Texas. In the UT Music Hall Auditorium.
At 8 pm--
The big event of the JacobTV Festival will be "The Boombox Music Of Jacob Ter Veldhuis" featuring special guest artists and ensembles, UT Music faculty, and UT Music Students. In the Cox Auditorium at Alumni Memorial Bldg., (See my preview in this week's Metro Pulse and read this earlier post)
