Classical Cafe:

Music This Weekend

For Friday night, I highly recommend The Boombox Music of JacobTV -- the big event in the week-long Jacob ter Veldhuis Festival at UT.  The concert is at 8 pm in the Cox Auditorium on the UT Campus.  (Read my article on ter Veldhuis in this week's Metro Pulse) If you attended Thursday night's concert of the Tallahatchie Concerto, you will know that Jacob ter Veldhuis is a composer who "slips in under the radar", both musically and emotionally.  Not to be missed, and the price is right -- it's free.

Sunday afternoon, make your way to the Bijou Theater for the Knoxville Symphony Orchestra Chamber series concert Chamber Music of America featuring the String Quartet of Samuel Barber; the Leonard Bernstein Trio for Violin, Cello, and Piano; Lucas Richman's Our Waking Life and a Dream; and works by Paul Bowles and William Bolcom featuring soprano Jennifer Barnett.  The concert will also premiere the winner of the 2009 KSO Young Composer Competition, Timothy Cooper, with his work Canaan Heights
