The recently formed Oak Ridge Youth Symphony Orchestra will perform their debut concert on Tuesday evening, April 21st at 7:00 pm in the Oak Ridge High School Auditorium. The ORYSO, under the direction of Rachel Grubb, will offer George Bizet's L'Arlésienne Suite #1, the first movement of the Schumann Piano Concerto, and the world premiere of David Pegel's Overture for the Next Generation.
ORYSO has indicated its intention to introduce orchestral music created in the 21st Century. To that end, the first concert will offer the World Premier Performance of Overture for the Next Generation, a composition by University of Tennessee graduate student David Pegel.
Ryan Liu, the Concertmaster of the Orchestra and obviously a talented pianist as well, was the winner of the 2009 ORYSO Concerto Competition. Liu will be the soloist with the orchestra in the Schumann Piano Concerto.
A reception will follow the concert.
