The Bach Project, a documentary by Maryland-based filmmaker Michael Lawrence, is currently in the final stages of post-production for a pending release this summer or fall. The film project, which began at the Entertainment Gathering in Los Angeles in 2007, delves into the influence of Johannes Sebastian Bach on past and present musicians and listeners around the globe. Musicians interviewed and appearing in the film include notables from all walks of the music world such as violinists Joshua Bell and Hilary Hahn, Peter Schickele, Bobby McFerrin, Béla Fleck, Philip Glass, bassist Edgar Meyer, and cellist Wendy Sutter...just to name a few.
Here are a few preview clips from the film posted on YouTube:
Philip Glass and Wendy Sutter performed at the Big Ears Festival last winter.
Edgar Meyer, bassist, is a native of Oak Ridge.
Béla Fleck performs often in Knoxville.
I'll be posting information later on when the DVD might be available.
