Carroll Freeman Opens UT's Pre-Game Faculty Showcase

What with traffic and all, I will be the first to admit that I try to stay as far away from the UT Campus on football game days as I can.  For that reason, I must also admit, shamefully, that I have been unaware of the College of Arts and Sciences' Pregame Faculty Showcase which, amazingly, is in its 20th year of existence. The Showcases are held two hours before kickoff of each home game and highlight an Arts and Sciences faculty member for arriving pre-game football fans in a 30-minute presentation of the faculty member's choice, followed by a 15-minute question-and-answer session.

For this week's home opener game, that faculty member will be none other than UT Opera's Carroll Freeman who will offer "Master Class-less: BeaUTy and the Beats." Those unfamiliar with Mr. Freeman can rest assured that his contribution will exhibit a total lack of stodginess. Performance will be interspersed throughout the presentation, and Freeman will take a humorous look at some of the stereotypes of opera. He also will discuss opera performers and how the media is changing the industry.

With this week's kickoff time set at 12:15 pm on Saturday, the Showcase will begin at 10:15 am. in the University Center Ballroom. It is free and open to the public.
