KSO Concertmaster Zelmanovich To Retire

The Knoxville Symphony Orchestra has announced that its Concertmaster, Mark Zelmanovich, will retire from the orchestra at the end of the 2009-2010 season.  Following his retirement, Zelmanovich will be honored with the title Concertmaster Emeritus.

Zelmanovich joined the KSO as Concertmaster in 1986--his 24-year term in the first chair being the longest of any KSO concertmaster.  During his years with the KSO, he has also been a member of the faculty of the University of Tennessee School of Music as Associate Professor of Violin Performance and as Artist-in-Residence.

Lucas Richman, KSO Music Director, commented:
"Upon my arrival in Knoxville, I was delighted to find at the head of the KSO string section a concertmaster with such an extraordinary depth of experience, style, and musical knowledge.  He will be leaving the institution with the legacy of his fine leadership and the utmost respect from colleagues, friends, and audience members."

There are plans to honor Zelmanovich at the January Masterworks concert on January 14 and 15, 2010.  He will also be featured artist at the Knoxville Symphony Chamber Orchestra concert in May of 2010 for a performance of Tchaikovsky's Meditation.
