Saturday: Final Concert for Kodkani-Laemmli in OR

On Saturday evening, May 1, Maestro Cornelia Kodkani-Laemmli will be completing her fifth--and final--season as music director and conductor of the Oak Ridge Symphony Orchestra with a concert entitled "Persian Persuasion." 

The concert will feature two works by the 19th century Russian composer Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov,The Tsar's Bride Overture and Scheherazade--and a work by contemporary American composer Christopher Theofanidis, The Here and Now.

The Here and Now (2005) is a work for chorus, orchestra, and soloists based on the poetry of Rumi, a 13th century Persian poet. The performance will feature the ORSO, the Oak Ridge Chorus, and the Voices of the Mountains Chorus from Kingsport. The soloists will be Sunny Oh, tenor Andrew Skoog, and bass Andrew Wentzel.

The concert will take place in the Oak Ridge High School Performing Arts Center at 8 p.m.
