Classical Cafe:

An Additional Gig for Lucas Richman

It has been announced that Knoxville Symphony Orchestra Music Director and Conductor Lucas Richman has accepted the Music Director position with the Bangor Symphony Orchestra. The BSO conductorship will be in addition to his continued position with the KSO.

From the Bangor Symphony's press release:

"The Bangor Symphony Orchestra announced Thursday Lucas Richman has been named the organization's music director and conductor, the 10th in the 114-year history of the BSO. Richman, who currently serves as the music director of the Knoxville Symphony Orchestra in Tennessee, will make his first appearance in his new position on October 3 when the BSO kicks off its 115th season with a concert called "Welcome Lucas" and featuring music by composers Brahms, Copland and Bernstein.
Richman will conduct four of the BSO's five scheduled Masterworks concerts for the 2010-11 season, the highlights of which will include guest soloists Stefan Jackiw and Martina Filjak, the start of a Beethoven cycle, and a work composed by Richman himself."

"Of course, even though I'll be taking on the additional position with the Bangor Symphony, Knoxville will continue to be my home as it has been for the past seven years.  I look forward to participating in all the exciting events that we have scheduled for the KSO's upcoming 75th anniversary celebration, as well as forging ahead with all the planning that is already in process for the subsequent seasons."

According to the 2000 census data, Bangor, Maine, has a population comparable to the combined populations of Maryville and Alcoa, Tennessee.
