I have to confess that the UT Music Hall was never a favorite venue of mine. Its acoustics had some uncanny and unpleasant peaks and valleys--strings usually sounded rich and full, while woodwinds and percussion instruments and piano seemed to sound thin and drift off into nothingness. And, in the early days at least, it was too well equipped for a recital hall, yet inadequate for any sort of theatrical staging.
That said, I do feel a bit of nostalgia for the place as it sees its final hours. The entire music building is being demolished to make way for a new home of the UT School of Music. A hat tip to Donna Hundley of the UT School of Music for supplying these demolition photographs.
And, an update from September thanks to Barbara Murphy at UT School of Music--
