Rachele Gilmore Makes It Into OPERA NEWS

Soprano Rachele Gilmore hails from Atlanta, not Knoxville...nor does she live here now. However, after her absolute triumph as Lucia in last February's Knoxville Opera production of Lucia di Lammermoor, it almost feels as if she is a hometown girl. But make no mistake, Gilmore is going places in the opera world, and the magazine Opera News seems to know it now too--she is featured in a "Sound Bite" in the November issue.

Gilmore's big splash came last December when she stepped into a role she was covering (for Kathleen Kim) at the Metropolitan Opera, that of Olympia in Offenbach's The Tales of Hoffmann. Gilmore stunned that audience with her cute charm and coloratura ornaments that hit high Gs and an A-flat above high C. A link to a YouTube video of that incredible Met performance can be found here. My Metro Pulse review of Lucia di Lammermoor can be found here.

Gilmore will return to Knoxville next April for the Knoxville Opera Rossini Festival production of Bellini's I Puritani. The Tennessee Theatre would be advised to make sure their chandeliers are fully secured.
