For some reason, there has been a virtual embarrassment of riches lately in terms of cello and piano duos that have come to our attention. We can now add to this feast the duo of Kathleen Bowman, cello, and Eva Holder, piano, who have a program entitled Celebrating the Centuries that has been making recital stops at various venues in Knoxville as of late. Their next performance of the program is on Saturday, November 6, 6 pm, under the auspices of the University of Tennessee School of Music. The venue is Performance Hall 32 in the Alumni Memorial Building on the UT Campus.
Their program takes its name from the span of three centuries over three works:
From the 18th Century comes Nina, originally an aria by Giovanni Pergolesi, transcribed for cello and piano by Otto Deri. From the 19th Century comes Frederic Chopin's Sonata for Cello and Piano, Op. 65.From the 20th Century comes Samuel Barber's Sonata for Cello and Piano, Op. 6.
Bowman and Holder are also offering this program at 6 p.m. on Thursday, November 11, at the Knoxville Museum of Art.
