Weekend Public Performances at the UT Violin Festival

The 2011 UT School of Music Violin Festival runs this weekend, March 25 - 27. As part of the festival, there are a couple of public performances that are worth noting and attending even if you aren't taking part in the festival. Both of these performances are FREE.

On Saturday evening (March 26), festival guest violinist Oleh Krysa will join with his wife, pianist Tatiana Tchekina, in a guest artist recital at 8 p.m. in Performance Hall 32 in the Alumni Memorial Building on the UT Campus. Krysa is currently professor of violin at the Eastman School of Music.

Their recital program will include works by Brahms, Paganini, Wieniawski, Tchaikovsky, Stravinsky, et al.

On Sunday afternoon (March 27), the Festival will close with a Gala Concert in the Cox Auditorium at 4 p.m. featuring the University of Tennessee Symphony Orchestra and the Festival All-Violin Orchestra with conductor James Fellenbaum. Soloists will be Oleh Krysa, Mark Zelmanovich, and Miroslav Hristov, violins; with Judith Bible, piano.

Works on the concert will include a movement from Bach's Concerto for Two Violins, a movement from Mozart's Concertone in C Major for Two Violins and Orchestra, Tzigane: Rhapsodie de Concert by Maurice Ravel, along with other works by Purcell and Bach.
