Assuming that one can still get a ticket, and that is a BIG if...the Knoxville Symphony Orchestra will offer concerts this week that should not be missed. This week's Masterworks Concerts will feature two works, Bolcom's Prometheus and Beethoven's Symphony No. 9.
Bolcom's Prometheus was commissioned by a consortium of nine orchestras (of which the KSO was one) and received its official premiere in November 2010, by the Pacific Symphony Orchestra and Chorale, Carl St. Clair conducting. The work is for piano, chorus, and orchestra--the guest pianist will be Jeffrey Biegel.
I don't suppose I really need to describe Beethoven's final symphony, Symphony No. 9.
The Knoxville Choral Society joins the KSO for the two works. Lucas Richman conducts.
Tennessee Theatre, Thursday and Friday, April 14 and 15, 8 p.m.
