Classical Cafe:

New KSO Players for 2011

As you settle into your seat for the opening Knoxville Symphony Orchestra Masterworks concert next week (September 22 and 23), don't be surprised if you see quite a few new faces in key positions. There are a number of changes in the violins, as well as in the interim principals in the woodwinds. Here are the new faces in a nutshell--

•  Gabriel Lefkowitz is the KSO's new Concertmaster
•  Gordon Tsai will be joining the KSO in January as Associate Concertmaster. Until then, Sean Claire will be acting Associate.
•  Sara Matayoshi joins the KSO as a core violinist
•  Violinists Ruth Bacon and Diane Zelickman have one year appointments

•  Ebonee Thomas has a one year interim appointment as Principal Flute while Nadine Hur is on leave of absence
•  Peter Cain has a one year appointment as Principal Clarinet while Gary Sperl is on leave of absence
•  Jeffery Whaley received a one year appointment as Principal Horn following the death last May of Calvin Smith

My complete tour of the new players is at Classical Journal.
