Road Trip: Bassist Edgar Meyer in Kingsport

The Symphony of the Mountains, based in Kingsport, opens its 66th season this Saturday, September 29, with a little help from double bass virtuoso Edgar Meyer. Meyer, of course, hails from Oak Ridge, although there are a number of South Knoxville residents who would want to claim him as well.

The concert begins at 7:30 p.m. at Toy F. Reid Employee Center (400 S. Wilcox Dr., KingsportTN,) with the Pre-Concert Chat slated for 6:30 with music director Cornelia Laemmli Orth and Meyer.

Call for directions and tickets: (423) 392-8423 or go to the Symphony website at www.SymphonyOfTheMountains.org.

The evening's bill includes John Williams' "Olympic Fanfare and Theme," Bottesini's "Concerto for Double Bass, No.2, B minor," and Meyer's own composition entitled "Concerto for D for Double Bass and Orchestra."
