The scheduled guest violinist for the February 21-22 KSO concerts, Brittany Sklar, had to cancel due to a hand injury--so substituting for her will be the now twenty-year old William Hagen, a violinist who has enjoyed child-prodigy status since he was nine.
The concert is titled "Romance of the Violin" for the general gist of the programming, but mostly for Pablo de Sarasate's work for violin and orchestra, Carmen Fantasy, a work written in 1883 on themes from George Bizet's opera, Carmen. Also on the program is Antonin Dvorak's Carnival Overture, James Newton Howard's A Village Romance (from M. Night Shyamalan's film, The Village), and finally Tchaikovsky's Symphony No. 3 ("Polish"). Lucas Richman conducts.
