Met Opera HD Encores Begin With 'Carmen'

The Metropolitan Opera Hi-Def series of summer encores in movie theaters starts this Wednesday with Bizet's Carmen (originally broadcast January 16, 2010). The Knoxville venue is Regal Cinemas' West Town Mall; the showing starts at 7 pm. Tickets are extremely reasonable-$12.50 I believe.

The cast includes Barbara Frittoli as Micaëla; Elīna Garanča as Carmen; Roberto Alagna as Don Jose; and Teddy Tahu Rhodes as Escamillo. The conductor is Yannick Nézet-Séguin; the production director is Richard Eyre.

Subsequent Wednesday performances will be:

Verdi's Il Trovatore - Wednesday, June 26, 2013
Rossini's Armida - Wednesday, July 10, 2013
Verdi's La Traviata - Wednesday, July 17, 2013
