Sunday: Beethoven Violin Sonatas Series

While there is regular cooperation on many levels between the UT School of Music and Knoxville's professional music scene, a performance this Sunday, September 22, will begin a series that is just a tad bit uncommon--but one that is extremely welcome. The complete set of Ludwig van Beethoven's ten Violin Sonatas will be performed by UT music faculty pianist Kevin Class and seven Knoxville violinists in a series of three monthly recitals. All seven violinists are members of the Knoxville Symphony Orchestra violin section.

The first recital will cover four sonatas featuring violinists Sean Claire, Ruth Bacon, and Sara Matayoshi. The remaining sonatas will be performed on Monday, October 28, and Monday, November 18.

The performances are in the Sandra G. Powell Recital Hall in the new Haslam Music Center on the UT Campus at 8 p.m. Admission is free.

On this Sunday's program are--

• Sonata No. 1 in D Major, Op. 12, No. 1 with violinist Sean Claire
• Sonata No. 8 in G Major, Op. 30, No. 3 with violinist Sara Matayoshi
• Sonata No. 4 in A minor, Op. 23 with violinist Ruth Bacon
• Sonata No. 6 in A Major, Op. 30, No. 1 with violinist Sean Claire
