Saturday: Met Live in HD Presents 'Werther'

Quite suddenly it seems, people who haven't really been into opera are talking about the tenor Jonas Kaufmann--and talking and talking. His concerts and recitals are sell-outs and his current appearance in Massenet's Werther at the Metropolitan Opera is drawing crowds which seem to include a lot of women. I wonder why?

This Saturday's installment of the Metropolitan Opera's Live in HD broadcast features Kaufmann in Massenet's adaptation of Goethe's novel, The Sorrows of Young Werther. Singing opposite Kaufmann is Sophie Koch as Charlotte. This new Met production is directed and designed by Richard Eyre and Rob Howell. Conducting is Alain Altinoglu.
