Fearless Foodie:

A Little Sweetener Sanity

I'm a little skeptical about those "Sweet Surprise" corn growers commercials touting, "it's okay to eat loads of high fructose corn syrup, promise!" But maybe that's more because the woman telling her friend to quit running down HFCS in one of the television ads has the exact same tone my mom uses to tell me, "Sweetie you could use a little lipstick"--and the face the eyewear sales woman puts on when I tell her, three times, "no, just the cheapo glasses I came in for, no glare protection, no designer frames." It's the "you poor deluded fool" approach, and I don't tend to respond; just once I wish that commercial would end with the scolded woman saying something like, "yes, but I came over here to tell you you've got skunks in your attic, not to listen to your drivel."  I greatly  prefer the propaganda in this counterpoint argument from the consulting nutritionist for the Stonyfield organic yogurt outfit in Vermont. I especially liked the part about the sugar in yogurt (all brands) coming in part from the food itself.
