Fearless Foodie:

That Free Tote Is Practically Mine...

Just had a brainstorm. The Knox County Public Library System, see, has just started its summertime adult reading challenge. Just peruse four (count 'em, four) books between June 1-July 30 and turn in this form at any local library, and a nifty tote bag is yours for the keeping. The past two years the righteous prize has been a spacious ceramic coffee cup with a wise, bookish saying emblazoned upon it, and I can't say I won't miss those. But the tote looks pretty handy, especially as something I could accidentally leave at home or in the car during a raging thunderstorm while intending to use it to carry groceries or produce. So, I think it would be in keeping with a loose theme for me to read food books, and cookbooks, which as you know is a hobby/obsession with me, to earn my freebie. If you'd like to do the same, here are some titles I'd heartily recommend that just happen to be available at least one of our local libaries:

Cross Creek Cookery by Marjorie Kinnan Rawlins, author of The Yearling
Dinner at the Homesick Restaurant  by Anne Tyler. I admit, it's fiction, but it's a great story about family rivalry, a neat-o restaurant concept, and a soup made with at least one head of garlic.
