Fearless Foodie:

Om, Vic & Bill's Greek Omelette

Ambled over to Vic & Bill's Greek deli off Broadway for lunch today. Was driven, actually, by Kathy and Kelly, my longtime lunch rescue friends. I only mourned a little that it's not 24 hours like it was in its Ft. Sanders days. They're only open to 9 p.m. these days, but I can still get my very favorite dish, the Greek omelette, well done, no tomatoes... wow. It's got spinach that's just the right amount of firm, tiny tidbits of mushroom, pepper, and something basil- or oregano like. And the feta cheese, perfect, showing off the Greek origins of the place. Crispy hash browns, and, I blush to admit it, plain Kerns-white bread looking toast and I'm in heaven, not to mention the recipient of a surge of iron.

I did notice that they've jumped on the $5 special bandwagon, offering theirs after 5 p.m. M-F. I'll probably never order anything but "my" omelette, but I know from years of picky-picky dining companions that these fiver specials are all good stuff, too. And each comes with a fountain drink:
Turkey and cheese sub with chips
BLT with fries
Jumbo burger with chips
2 hot dogs with mustard, chili and onions, with chips
Tuna or chicken salad sandwich with chips
