We won't know for sure until it begins this Sunday, but the S & W Grand's new brunch sounds like a swell idea to me. It's going to be buffet-style, around $16 per adult, every Sunday 10 a.m.-3 p.m., and will include applewood-smoked bacon and a made-to-order gourmet pancake bar. The Johnson Swingtet will be playing from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and there's talk of a Bloody Mary bar and mimosas.
I can't resist adding that I for one think it's high time everyone forgave the S & W Grand for merely rescuing the building that was once the S & W Cafeteria, and restoring it impeccably and historically, and then putting a fine dining establishment inside, instead of becoming a clone of the earlier place. They've got a fine menu, impeccable service, a nice bar and Happy Hour, and employ somewhere around 60 people. And they've brought their lunch prices into line with a lot of other downtown eateries with a new menu. The Sesame Seared Jumbo Scallop Salad, at $9.95, is a keeper. So they're not a cafeteria... let's put that behind us.
