150 Fancy Cakes to Be on Display at Neyland Stadium this Saturday
The 2nd Annual Great Cake Bake is sure to be a sweet event for Imagination Library
(Knoxville, TN) For the second year, ambitious cake decorators are displaying their skills at The Great Cake Bake from 12:00 to 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 26. This year, due to an overwhelming response, the event was moved to Neyland Stadium's Tennessee Terrace. Parking in Lot 9 is free and easily accessible to the stadium entrance at Gate 19. Admission is $5 with children age 10 and under getting in for free.
As a fund raiser for the Imagination Library program in Knox County, The Great Cake Bake puts creativity to the test for fancy cakes in three categories: Wedding , All Occasion and Single Cupcake. Skill levels range from Junior Bakers to Professionals. Most show cakes will be available for sale along with other baked goods. The day will feature an array children's activities as well including cupcake decorating and arts and crafts.
"We were thrilled with the quality and level of the competition last year," commented Bonny Naugher, Chair of Imagination Library in Knox County. "We didn't know what to expect, and when the competition cakes started arriving, even the judges were shocked by the skill and creativity of cake decorators in our area. I can't wait to see what comes in this year. I know it will be amazing." Competitors come from all over East Tennessee, with some entries from neighboring states of Kentucky and Virginia.
This year, the audience will have a say in the judging. The winner of the People's Choice cake will receive free tuition to a cake sculpting workshop at Arrowmont lead by celebrity cake decorator, Collette Peters.
Last year's event raised nearly $12,000 for the Imagination Library in Knox County, which provides a free book in the mail to children under five every month. Dolly Parton started the program in Sevier County in 1996. It has since expanded to three continents. Knox County's program just passed its one million book milestone in March.
The Great Cake Bake is made possible through the generous support of Food City, Sugarbaker's, B97.5, WVLT-TV, Knoxville News Sentinel, East Tennessee PBS, and the Sisters of the Skillet.
