Fearless Foodie:

Hot Fresh, Biscuit Festival News

First, I'm going to share the best-ever biscuit photo, which came to me from Alissa Harb and was captured for posterity at the Tupelo Cafe in Asheville, N.C.

Next, we've got biscuit news!

The second annual International Biscuit Festival on Market Square is barreling down upon us May 27-28. After last year's overwhelming success left crumbs for lots of fans, this year's credo is "We'll Make More," says Biscuit Boss John Craig.

Also new: a Biscuit Benefit Dinner, featuring Miami-based guest chef Michelle Bernstein and hosted by Blackberry Farm on Friday, May 27 at 7 p.m. Proceeds will benefit Share Our Strength, a national charity working to eliminate childhood hunger, as well as local partner Second Harvest.

And yes, the Biscuit Bake Off will be back, with contestants selected from a nationwide application process competing on the Southern Biscuit Flour Stage in four categories: Traditional Biscuits, Dessert Biscuits, Most Creative Biscuit, and the brand-new Kids' Biscuits category. Bake Off applications are available online at BiscuitFest.com, but you better get busy. Submissions will be accepted until midnight on May 2. Finalists will be notified and scheduled for the live competition on Market Square.
