Fearless Foodie:

Urban Land Scouts Forage for Edibles

level5.jpgThe Urban Land Scouts are entering their second year, and this year originator (and way-cool badge designer) Katie Ries is partnering with Beardsley Community Farm to promote urban land stewardship, wild edibles, and plain old paying attention to the marvelous world around us. Just a few minutes talking to Ries has me thinking of that pear tree near the downtown YMCA, and I'm thinking I'll ask this year if I can, er, "harvest" some of the fruit, even if it's not on the sidewalk. Meantime, any of these Wednesday night sessions look like a good deal.

Last, if you click on this article, it will lead you to a gallery of the badges. They're inspiring, although I'm not sure what I'd sew them onto should I ever get organized enough to earn one... Maybe an apron.
