Making good stuff to sell at markets and among friends just got a lot easier for Tennessee home kitchens--at least the paperwork part. A new law signed by Governor Bill Haslam last week allows Tennesseans who manufacture for sale "non-potentially hazardous foods" like baked goods, candy, jams and jellies in a home kitchen to forgo inspection and permitting by the Tennessee Department of Agriculture Regulatory Services Division--effective immediately.
The bakers and goody makers who forgo inspection and certification under the new law will have to provide signage to let consumers know, and label their goods with the common-name ingredients and a net quantity statement.
