Saturday afternoon update, live from the Downtown Grill and Brewery
Matthew has already provided a succinct description of Oliveros' workshop, so I won't do too much rehashing here. It was definitely an interesting exercise.Don't listen to Matthew in all things, though. Neil Hamburger's architectural tour was great fun. I learned a lot. See my better-than-official Twitter feed for details.
I just left the Education Annex at the Woodruff, which was ringing with the beeps, boops, and assorted stratches of Nicolas Collins' hardware hacking workshop.
Collins started things off with a brief lecture on the history of hardware hacking, after which he passed out the alligator clips and set his charges to work.
Participants scrounged up a variety of speakers, radios, and a random assortment of metal leavings and learned a few quick-and-dirty ways to turn them into makeshift electronic instruments.
All in all, things are really picking up down here. I haven't seen a single event anything less than packed, even with big names like Philip Glass potentially eating up audiences for events scheduled during the same time.Philip Glass' Q&A in 10, 5th floor of the Woodruff.
