As a longtime reader of 16-year-old Truman Melton's column in the South Knox • Seymour Community Times, I was most pleased to learn that he's the #1 seed in the North region of Zinch.com's "March Madnezz."
This has little to do with basketball. Instead, after initial state and regional rounds, 64 high school students from around the country are competing for a $20,000 college scholarship. Each bracket pits two students against each other in an online battle for votes. The second round is underway (ending March 27), and Truman is up against a multi-instrumentalist from New York state.
"My dream college is our very own UT, and this scholarship would easily cover the expenses," writes Truman in an e-mail. "Please help me realize this dream."
Don't disappoint South Knoxville's Truman Melton -- VOTE NOW.
