A few weeks ago, we ran a feature about the surprisingly few urban trends of 2009 that hadn't made it to Knoxville yet. One of them was the intuitive, one-of-a-kind wacky-funhouse theme hotel. These seem to be the most talked-about hostelries all over the world these days. We may be getting some version of one, in the form of the much-delayed Indigo, on Lake Avenue, later this year.
But in the meantime, have a look at Asheville's latest amenity: http://www.romanticasheville.com/bohemian.htm
Lots of people, after a visit or two, assume Asheville is a much bigger city than Knoxville is. Talked today, on an unrelated issue, to an Asheville tourism promoter. She referred to Knoxville "the nearest big city," and said we were a huge part of the Asheville market. And come to think of it, every time I go there, it seems, the sidewalk cafes are full of Knoxvillians and former Knoxvillians. Maybe Asheville is where we go to get all urban.
