The Sherpa is a new recurring feature on The Daily Pulse blog.
I'll throw out some of the coverage that's gotten attention on our
website, as well as feature a couple of events that might be of
interest. Let me know if I'm boring the hell out of you, and I'll tweak. --Lindsay Beeson (Senior Designer and such)

I had to skitter away from the office at 5 for an appointment yesterday, but every other person on our production staff (Travis. Corey. Debra.) stayed until after midnight working their asses off to get this Best of Knoxville Issue together. And there's still a pile of work to be done.
While I leave you to ponder that this must represent some unmeasurable depth of love we have for Metro Pulse readers, how about some stories to pass the time? And some choice events going on around town today?

Maybe it should come as no surprise that HB0962/SB1127, the so-called "guns in bars" bill, has a real chance of passing through the state General Assembly this week. After passing 70-26 in the House earlier this month, it passed 26-7 last week in the Senate, which voted to remove a House amendment that would have prevented permit holders from carrying in alcohol-serving restaurants between 11 p.m. and 5 a.m.

For decades the infernal regions of Gay Street have been the subject of speculation, legend, misconception, and, for those picturing a cavernous Edwardian underworld of barber poles and hitching posts and forgotten saloons, disappointment. What's really down there is a lot of space, most of it awkwardly arranged in rectangular chambers of assorted sizes.

What a difference eight years makes in the disposition of Knoxvillians to run for City Council. When term limits were first imposed in 2001, some 30 candidates vied to fill the five council seats that were thereby vacated. The victors in those spirited contests--Joe Hultquist, Barbara Pelot, Steve Hall, Rob Frost, and Mark Brown--all ran and deservedly won again in 2005, but now they are term-limited as well.
