The Daily Pulse:

More Awards Glory

Today, the Association of Alternative Newsweeklies announced the finalists for its 2009 AltWeekly awards, and Metro Pulse has scored four wins -- the second highest number among papers competing in the sub-50,000 circulation category.

Unlike the recent East Tennessee SPJ awards, this is a national contest where we're competing head to head with our peers. So it's got extra super-special meaning to those of us slaving away in the alt-weekly mines.

Here's what we got:

PUBLIC SERVICE
Jackie Walker by Betty Bean

ARTS CRITICISM
So, This Is My Life... by Charles Maldonado

ARTS FEATURE
Lowbrow Genius by Coury Turczyn

INNOVATION / FORMAT BUSTER
Superhero vs. Autobiographical Comics by Coury Turczyn, Matthew Everett, and Travis Gray

We won't know where the stories will place until the awards are doled out at the
AAN convention on June 26. So cross your fingers with us for some first-place
finishers...
