The black bear who entered a West Knoxville home last week and was eventually caught and euthanized touched and saddened me. To balance out the karma a little, I tried to focus on the orphaned and injured cubs who are assisted by the Appalachian Bear Rescue--here are some stats on their efforts. And even more heartwarming is this video of Cades Cove wildlife captured last summer by Charlotte, N.C. photographer Joe Kegley, brought to my attention by his cousin Kathy Russell, a good friend from good old South Knoxville. Kegley said the bears were easier to spot because they were seeking a once-per-17-years delicacy. Cicadas don't sound that tasty to me, but it's one food foraging habit that won't get a bear killed....
