You know that younger person in the office who looks slightly harassed/lost while unobtrusively and constantly texting on their phone? The person who does such exhilarating things as filling out company spreadsheets and type up letters to the editor? Well that is what we call an intern and that is what yours truly is (save the continual texting thing, which of course I would never, ever do.) It's an interesting position in the media world, we few who willingly give our time to sit at desks hastily shoved into free corners with used computers from 1993, just to get one foot into the door of our dream job. Yup, that's me. The person who always snags cookies in the break room and who's name you probably don't know. But we aren't complaining. Yes, I know sometimes we can look dour (that's just because we're tired from staying at Hannah's until 3 a.m.) but we hopefully work on. Because one day we will get there and be able to have a desk that isn't propped up with a filing cabinet from Lowes and write to our hearts content. Or, at least be making a salary.
But it's Thursday and you know what that means: Sundown! So come visit us interns at the Metro Pulse booth and get free movie passes to Year One, with Jack Black and Michael Cena. But until then, here are the Most and the events.
Who wouldn't want to know this?!
There are certain food topics on which I am the undisputed expert. I'm telling you. How to make pimiento cheese. Where to get the best mashed potatoes or grilled salmon in Knoxville. The science behind the glittery "stars" in a Starry Night shooter. But beer? I, well--I do appreciate how clear, weak as water American beers like Coors Light taste pretty darn good with pesto pizza.
I feel obliged to say a word for the late Pollyanna Creekmore, who died early last week. She was 88 years old, older than I would have guessed, though some of her old colleagues thought she was older than that. She was a sturdy woman with white hair and a determined look it's usually better not to mess with.

In which a gracious commenter says "One of the best things about Knoxville are its surprises." We couldn't agree more.
Jacques Gautreau never knows what he's looking for until he finds it. When he first came to downtown Knoxville, he didn't find anything open, any events going on. He didn't find anybody at all. What he found was a fresh way of looking at the city that brings out the neglected scenes, the surprising contrasts, and sometimes the accidental beauty, of an urban landscape.
Yup, this story is still garnering attention and you are still commenting on it.
