Today the Knox County Commission voted not to opt-out of the statewide law that allows permit holders to carry guns in parks, rebuffing the recommendation of the Parks and Recreations committee and Commissioner Amy Broyles (pictured above).
This means guns are now prohibited in city parks but allowed in county parks.
The audience seemed to be in favor of this decision. At the meeting a number of people spoke against Broyles' measure, invoking the founding fathers, the constitution and God to describe why a prohibition should not go forward.
Commissioner Greg "Lumpy" Lambert (above in blue) should be pleased: he penned an op-ed a couple of days ago in which he lobbied for this decision, and after the city retained its prohibition, he vowed the county would not do the same. It looks like Lambert was right.
