Sen. Olympia Snowe, Republican of Maine, said today she will vote for the Senate Finance Committee's health care proposal.
"'Is this bill all that I want? Far from it,' Ms. Snowe said. 'Is it all that it can be? Far from it. But when history calls, history calls.'"
Her vote doesn't change the math -- Democrats outnumber Republicans 13-10 on the committee. But it does represent an important "get" for Senate Democrats and Obama, who can now say they made efforts to win Republicans and got one.
The Senate committee is expected to vote on the bill, known as the Baucus bill for chairman Max Baucus, this afternoon.
