We Knew Him When: Metro Pulse theater critic Kieron Barry has been named a Norman Mailer Fellow, an award granted by the Norman Mailer Writers Colony, which was established after Mailer's death in 2007 to recognize and assist emerging, mid-career, and distinguished writers. The award entitles Barry to spend time working with other writers in Mailer's former home in Provincetown, Mass.
If that's not enough, Kieron has also been nominated (today!) for the Charles Wintour Award for most promising playwright at the 2009 London Evening Standard Theatre Awards. (Other familiar nominees for awards at the November ceremony include Kevin Spacey and Sir Ian McKellen--both for Best Actor--and Sam Mendes for Best Director.) The nomination was in recognition of his play Stockwell, which ran earlier this year and was described by The Times as "more gripping than anything else to be seen in the London theatre."
