The Daily Pulse:

Parades: The Worst Part of Thanksgiving?

Frank here. I came down with the flu Monday night, not sure whether it's the swine H1N1 (all hail our pork industry overlords) variety or the regular human one. As I understand it, the distinction isn't that important as the treatments for each are the same-drink a boatload of Gatorade, eat a few cans of soup and feel shitty for three days.

So it may be the Theraflu and fatigue speaking, but this article in today's community section of the News Sentinel reminds me a day early of how much I truly hate the Macy's Day parade. Not to pick on some teenage girls who are obviously jazzed about going to New York to dance, but that photo makes me sad.

And I don't know whether its the costumes, the asinine helium balloons, the vacuous cheerfulness that emanates from the announcers-but I don't get the appeal. Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday, but this has always seemed an unnecessary event.

Am I wrong?
