"Who has the best pizza in town?" is an epic question that can never be fully answered -- it depends on what kind of pizza you ate growing up, your preferred Sauce vs. Cheese Ratio, and how much of an effort you're willing to make to actually try every pizza in town. But no matter how many times this debate has been raised, Knoxville's pie makers have seemingly co-existed in peace.
Until now, maybe.
Today, we received a press release from Hard Knox Pizza in Western Plaza boldly declaring that it had sent a cease-and-desist letter to Brixx Wood Fired Pizza in Turkey Creek. The reason? Two words: "Wood Fired."
Hard Knox charges that Brixx does not offer authentic wood-fired pizza because they use gas-fired ovens with wood pieces added; Hard Knox uses ovens fired by wood only. Thus, Hard Knox has demanded that Brixx change its marketing to removed the "wood fired" description, and it may even file a complaint with the Tennessee Division of Consumer Affairs. Brixx has pointed out that its marketing doesn't actually say that wood-fired ovens are used.
The News Sentinel has a small story about the (ahem) burning issue.
Update: Newer NS story.
