The Daily Pulse:

Wamp Reaches out to Country Singers

U.S. Rep. and GOP gubernatorial hopeful Zach Wamp is looking to country musicians to help him pave a path to the governor's mansion.

His reasoning?  "To have people like this who do have an appeal that kind of transcends both parties and transcends the world of politics and government is really positive," Wamp said, according to the Chattanooga Times Free Press.
That may be true in Tennessee, but country music is pretty much a Republican affair on the national stage. Garth Brooks' performance at Pres. Obama's pre-inauguration day concert notwithstanding, you don't see too many country stars stumping for bread-and-butter Democrats.

Among the singers mentioned in the Free Press article are John Rich, Gretchen Wilson (featured recently by arts and music editor Matthew Everett) and Naomi Judd.

Is this just a token gesture, or do you think this could curry any favor with those outside Wamp's far-right base?
