Environmental consulting firm Downstream Strategies of Morgantown (W. Va.) released a report today projecting that coal production in Central Appalachia--that's Tennessee, West Virginia, Kentucky and Virgina--will continue a 12-year decline and fall 50 percent within the next ten years.
The report recommends that those states' lawmakers take measures to diversify their economies toward renewable energy sources, requiring 25 percent to come from alternative sources by 2025.
