The Daily Pulse:

Don't Say Gay Bill Tamed, For Now

Seems all that last-minute phone calling to state reps got at least decent results for state civil rights activists--particularly local activist Conrad Honicker and the Tennessee Equality Project--looking to eliminate Rep. Stacey Campfield (R-Knoxville)'s latest bill that attacks the LGBT population. HB0821, a.k.a. the "Don't Say Gay" bill that would effectively ban all teaching and materials that mention any relationships not heterosexual from state public schools, was referred Jan. 27 by the Tennessee General Assembly's House Education to the House K-12 General Subcommittee. The Nashville-based paper Out and About interpreted the move as a positive one in this article that explains the legislative ins and outs of the bill's progress, or lack thereof.
