The Daily Pulse:

Gay St. Bridge Closed

The City has closed Gay St. bridge, so if you've got to get over to no-man's land, aka South Knoxville, aka where I live, then you'll have to swim. I guess you can take the Henley Street bridge, too, if you want to be dull.

Here's the press release:

The City of Knoxville closed the Gay Street Bridge a little before 3:30 p.m. today due to weather conditions and Public Service crews are currently salting the city's main streets as well as those surrounding medical facilities.

David Brace, the city's Deputy Director of Public Service, indicated that crews will have completed work on the main, or Level I, streets by 8 p.m. and will report back for a conditions assessment at that point. It's anticipated that some crews will be staying over to help the night shift teams because of potentially hazardous conditions.

The city uses 21 vehicles for snow and ice removal and has substantial amounts of both salt and calcium chloride available for responding to seasonal weather events.
