The Daily Pulse:

Nominate Your Favorite Endangered Historic Place

It wasn't too long ago that the very idea of saving empty or ramshackle historic buildings in Knoxville was considered a lost cause. (Heck, even restoring the non-empty ones seemed beyond some people's imagination.) But Knoxville's mindset has come a long way since then, and the preservationist group Knox Heritage is one of the reasons why.

Every year, Knox Heritage issues its "Fragile 15" list of endangered historic places worth saving, bringing a lot of public attention to pieces of our heritage that need protection. Check out last year's list here and here

You can send them your own nominations of places we ought to be preserving right now -- deadline is March 15, and the final selections will be announced in May (National Preservation Month). Full details on how to make your nomination are after the jump.
KNOX HERITAGE CALLS FOR NOMINATIONS OF MOST ENDANGERED HISTORIC PLACES IN KNOX COUNTY

Deadline for 2010 "Fragile Fifteen" Nominations is March 15

KNOXVILLE, TENN. - Knox Heritage invites the general public to submit nominations of Knoxville's and Knox County's most endangered places or structures to be included in the 2010 Fragile Fifteen. The deadline for nominations is Monday, March 15.

Each May during National Preservation Month, Knox Heritage announces its list of the Fragile Fifteen to educate the public and local leaders about the plight of significant historic resources. The list provides a work plan for the non-profit organization for the next twelve months. Preservation strategies are developed for each site on the list and can include working with current property owners, government officials, citizens and/or potential new owners to preserve these important parts of our community's heritage.

Eligible nominations should include the following information:
• Street address of the endangered property, and name if applicable
• Nature of the threat to the property
• Name and contact information for the individual or group submitting the nomination
• Any known historical information about the property (year built, architect, past owners, etc.)
• Name and contact information for the current property owner (if available)

A nomination form is posted on the Knox Heritage web site and must be used to submit nominations to the 2010 Fragile Fifteen. Completed nomination forms can be sent to Knox Heritage until Monday, March 15 via the following ways: by mail to: Knox Heritage's 2010 Fragile Fifteen, P.O.
