Doug McFalls, the winter caretaker of LeConte Lodge on Mt. LeConte in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, has been keeping a blog for the last few months. The lodge is closed several months during winter, from November through March, and McFalls, a crew member during the season, is taking care of things until it opens back up next month.

He's taken some stunning photographs in the last few weeks, as
snow has piled up to about 38 inches. The last couple of days the high
temperature has been in the single digits. The blog is pretty
straightforward--accounts of temperatures, snowfall accumulation, trail
conditions--but the repetition and photos give it a quiet, poetic
beauty.
