Busker Follow-Up

City officials have finished their review of the busker-vs.-KPD incident detailed in Ear to the Ground. In an e-mail to downtown resident Art Carmichael, who had raised concerns about the treatment of the busker, downtown coordinator Hannah Parker says that the singer/guitarist "was occupying the public sidewalk with a blanket and a dog.  The citation was issued because he was in violation of the city's sidewalk access ordinance for the CBID and Downtown North." 

Of course, almost anyone on a sidewalk can be said to be occupying it. Whether the busker--playing in front of a vacant storefront--was actually blocking access to anything is no doubt a matter of judgment. In any case, we hope buskers (Bill and Jake included) continue to find a warm welcome downtown. At least, as long as they can carry a tune...
