Showing that he can read election results as well as he can parse county financial records, independent candidate Lewis Cosby announced today that he is withdrawing from the county mayor's race. "Last night's election results reflect a mandate from the public for a new change in the Knox County's Mayor Office and the election of Tim Burchett," Cosby wrote in a statement. He added that he hopes Burchet will "take the next three months getting as prepared as necessary to take on the implementation of what I believe will be a very difficult budget for 2011."
That leaves only Democrat Ezra Maize between Burchett and the county mayor's office. As of the last financial reporting period, Maize's campaign had less than $600 on hand. For more, see our full coverage of the mayor's race results.
Update: And, as R. Neal notes, independent candidate Robert Bedwell is theoretically running, too. Or at least, his name will be on the ballot. He hasn't filed any financial disclosure forms this year at all.
