The Daily Pulse:

Guns Don't Kill People, Etc.

Last Friday, the Tennessee Legislature successfully overrode Gov. Phil Bredesen's veto of the guns-in-bars law. This morning came the front-page story in the News Sentinel that Tennessee ranks 7th among states in per capita gun deaths. Gun-rights advocates, of course, argue that having more people with guns around actually makes us safer, because they can protect us from ... other people with guns. The Sentinel story naturally looks for guidance to County Commissioner Greg "Lumpy" Lambert, who assures that if we're eating at Ruby Tuesday and a crazy person with a gun comes in, we'd be better off having a well-armed Lumpy at our side than some lily-livered gun-control sissy. (We haven't formed an opinion about this, since we're still trying to figure out how we ended up eating at Ruby Tuesday with Lumpy in the first place.)

Anyway, in case anyone has forgotten what gun deaths entail, the Sentinel today also includes this sad story about a 17-year-old girl killed by stray bullets after an argument started in the street outside. Fortunately, nobody ever gets into arguments in bars, so we should all be just fine.
