Weekend fact: Adios to Three-Fingered Jack and the Robin Hood of El Dorado

CULTCHA

Friday, noon, the Square Room. WDVX Blue Plate Special. Free.
Katharine Whalen's voice was what set the Squirrel Nut Zippers apart from other hot-jazz revivalists. Now she's putting it to more conventional country-rock, with pleasing results. Hendrickson is a behatted alt-country dude from Illinois, you know the type.

Friday, 5 p.m., Civic Auditorium. $39.50.
The only reason I can think of to go to this show is anthropological: I want to know who actually listens to these bands.

Donald Brown with Afterdance and Sanda Allyson
Friday, 7 p.m., Purada. Free.
If you're in West Knoxville and haven't yet seen Brown and Allyson together, this is a nice opportunity.

Friday, 8 p.m., Bijou Theatre. $26.50.
Interesting Appalachian folk-rock from Jim James of My Morning Jacket and some unlikely colleagues. For a good cause, too: stopping mountaintop-removal mining.

Friday, 8 p.m., and Sunday, 2 p.m., Tennessee Theatre. $6-$10.
If your kids have never seen it on a big screen, now's their chance.

Friday, 9 p.m., Patrick Sullivans. $8/$10.
Mic and the fellas celebrate their fine new album, Great Commotion. There's a lot of rock in town this weekend, but there won't be a rocking-er show than this one. Come ready to drink.

Friday, 9 p.m., the Valarium. $42.
Taking a break from his Twitter feuds with Courtney Love, Billy Corgan is back with whoever else counts as a Smashing Pumpkin these days.

Kitty Wampus with Doug Shock, Frankenfoot and special guests
Saturday, 4 p.m.-9 p.m., the Cove in Concord Park. Free.
It's the local iteration of Aquapalooza, with a host of veteran rawkers.

Saturday, 8 p.m., Clayton Center for the Arts, Maryville. $10-$15.
WIVK gets on board the live-broadcast train with a full slate of country up-and-comers at Maryville's newest concert venue.

Saturday, 9:30 p.m., Patrick Sullivans. $7.
A Knoxville hip-hop summit of sorts. A lot of good music for not much money.

ETC.

Saturday and Sunday, 9 a.m.-7 p.m., Chilhowee Park. Free-$20.
An auto extravaganza, with proceeds going to Knox Area Rescue Ministries.

Saturday, 10 a.m.-2 p.m., Knoxville Zoo. Free with zoo general admission.
Two PBS Kids stars will be hanging around the zoo to meet and greet their young fans, and pose for photos.

Saturday, 6 p.m., Knoxville Convention Center. $100.
The annual local media variety show and charity fund-raiser. This year's honoree is Gene Patterson of WATE Channel 6.
